Professional Bio
Mark Thompson has served as Executive Director of Visit Plano since 1998, bringing over 35 years of leadership in Texas tourism. He previously held executive roles with Visit South Padre Island and Visit Tyler. A respected voice in destination marketing, Mark has received numerous honors including the “Tall in Texas Award,” the Marion Szurek Legacy Award, and the Gene Phillips Hospitality Award.
He currently serves as Chair of the One West Tourism Alliance and has held leadership roles with Dallas Ft. Worth Area Tourism Council, The Texas Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus, and the Destinations International Foundation. A Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME) and Certified Meeting Professional (CMP).
Mark is a Missouri native and a graduate from Missouri State University.
